Landscape design is more than just arranging plants—it's about shaping an experience, creating a sense of place, and striking the perfect balance between structure and spontaneity. This conceptual planting plan is a reflection of the elements I find most exciting in my work: the interplay of formal and tropical aesthetics, the movement of curves guiding the eye, and the vibrant colors and textures that bring life to a space.
As a landscape architect based in New Orleans, I’ve had the privilege of studying and experiencing some of the most lush and breathtaking gardens. The city’s unique fusion of European formality and tropical abundance is a constant source of inspiration. I love incorporating this dynamic contrast into my designs, blending the order and symmetry of classic design elements with the bold, organic movement of tropical plantings.
This particular design explores those principles through a carefully curated mix of plant material, structural elements, and spatial flow. The use of curved garden beds creates a natural rhythm, leading visitors through the space effortlessly. Layers of vibrant flowering shrubs, ornamental grasses, and evergreen hedges add depth and seasonal interest. Textural contrasts—broad-leafed tropical plants against finely cut groundcovers—enhance the visual impact, making the space feel both lush and refined.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the design process for me is this conceptual phase. It’s where creativity flows most freely, and the potential of a space begins to take shape. Sketching, shading, and layering colors allow me to visualize not just the arrangement of plants, but the feeling the space will evoke. The energy of this stage carries through to the final project, ensuring that the design is not only functional but also memorable and deeply connected to its surroundings.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring these landscapes to life, drawing from both my professional experience and the incredible gardens that New Orleans has to offer. Through thoughtful planning, bold use of color, and a love for classic design principles, my goal is always to craft spaces that feel timeless, inviting, and full of character.
